The Culture
Culture hungry visitors will delight in Antony Gormley's Angel of the North, one of the most viewed pieces of public art in the world, with a wingspan purported to be as large as a jumbo jet. The chic Quayside of Newcastle Gateshead bustles with street cafes and nightlife, and is home to the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art. The North East region boasts more castles than any other English region, a stark reminder of its border battles with Scotland.
Bamburgh Castle must surely deserve a special mention as one of Britain 's favourite views, set against the beautiful Bamburgh beach, it's the ideal location for photographers and artists alike.

Wildlife and Beaches
Parts of the North East are renowned as havens for wildlife; indeed the Farne Islands are home to Northern Europe 's largest grey seal colony. The stunning coastline of the region is certainly hard to resist, with Whitley Bay being possibly the best known of the area's beaches with its relaxed atmosphere and wonderful promenade, ideal for a sunny stroll. The region is blessed with several other award winning beaches; Roker, Seaburn and South Shields, whilst Longsands is extremely popular with water-sports enthusiasts.
A Haven for Food Lovers
The North East is a cornucopia of treasures for food-lovers with an abundance of wild game and seafood on offer. Craster Kippers are a regional breakfast favourite whilst Pease Pudding is one of the most famous dishes of the area, dating back to medieval times. With such a wide array of local beverages available, it would be almost rude not to sip a glass of the incredible Lindisfarne Meade, or sample the local tipple: Newcastle Brown Ale.
